Just off Crete’s northern coast, the island of Dia rises from the Cretan Sea, surrounded by crystalline waters and stories that reach back to antiquity. Uninhabited and largely untouched, it offers a glimpse of Crete beyond its shores, where mythology, nature and the rhythm of the sea come together. 

Curated by Creta Maris, this authentic sailing experience takes you aboard a traditional wooden caique for a journey to Dia’s secluded bays and hidden coves. Along the way, a local skipper brings the island’s past to life through tales connected to Zeus and Talos, the legendary bronze guardian of Crete. 

According to mythology, Zeus transformed a creature threatening his birthplace into stone, creating the island of Dia. Other stories speak of Talos watching over these waters, protecting Crete from approaching enemies. Today, these legends become part of the journey, shared against a landscape that feels almost suspended in time. 

Into the Blue 

Upon reaching Dia, the day unfolds at an easy pace. Swim in clear turquoise waters, snorkel above the colorful seabed or explore the calm surroundings on a paddleboard. Those who prefer to stay on board can simply relax on deck and take in the open views of the Cretan Sea. 

The experience also includes fishing lessons while sailing, with rods available on board. It is an opportunity to discover a tradition closely connected to island life, guided by those who know these waters best. 

Throughout the excursion, a selection of traditional Cretan bites is served on board, adding the flavors of the island to the experience.

Minimum participation: Four guests. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, guests will be offered an alternative date or a full refund. 

Booking confirmation: Reservations are confirmed by the Creta Maris Guest Service team and are not approved automatically. 

Last-minute bookings: Reservations are accepted until 6:00 p.m. on the day before the excursion. 

Cancellation policy: Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure. 

Weather conditions: If the excursion cannot take place due to weather conditions or the captain’s decision for safety reasons, guests will be offered an alternative date or a full refund. 

Participants will be asked to provide identification and relevant personal, health, dietary and swimming information during the booking process, as well as to accept the applicable safety rules.
